You Can't Save Me ((Yugo,Mature))

"I agree. On school nights she MUST be home by 9. On the weekends...if she wants to hang out with friends...I suppose maybe 10. I dont know..how much freedom can you give a 15 year old girl without her running away with it?" Shen asked. "Actually...maybe on school days she should be home by 8 and on the weekends home by 9. She can have 10 when she turns...seventeen or something..." Shen muttered.

"Terrible two's arent that bad, it just takes patience and commitment to punishments" she said simply. "As for the sneaking out. "I wont mind if she wants to go out so long as I know where she is at all times and is back a a decent hour during school nights" Kathrine said. Obviously having already been planning on parenting idea's for the future and Ceres was only a week and two days old

Shen laughed hard. His entire face had brightened up considerably. "I dont know. You know, there are two stages a parent needs to worry about. The first is the terrible 2's. The second is the terrible 15's. What if she turns into the kind of girl that sneaks out, mouths off, and does whatever she wants?" Shen smiled. He shook his head tho as he pulled his hand of Kate's leg and placed it back on the wheel. "Tho thats unlikely I suppose. Ha, assuming it were tho, I doubt we'd have to do much. Mother would chase her with a broom if she ever learned she was sneaking out...I speak from personal experience." Shen chuckled. His eyes shifted up to the rearview mirror so he could see Ceres. "You know we're talking about you like you're not even here. Got anything to say missy?"

Kathrine knew he was trying to ease her mind on the thoughts of his father hating Ceres. she didnt take this sort of kindness as a misleading intention. "Yeah.....She does...seem to get what ever she wants.... I dont know If I'll like having to pry my own daughter from her grandmother..." she sighed and chuckled as he laughed. "No way!" She said and shook her head, just thinking of Ceres turning into a stuck up brat made her shake her head again. "No, she's going to be a sweet level headed kind girl" Kathrine said and crossed her arms as if her decision on the matter was final

"Its not just that. She was born out of wedlock. She's a bastard..so in his mind..there's no way she can be apart of his family." Shen stated. His eyes shifted for a moment when she placed his hand over his. He wasn't trying to give her hope..no..he simply wanted to show that he was there to support her. "Well, he is very traditional. Growing up with him...it was...interesting." shen whispered. "In any case, Ceres will have us and her grandmother. You expect my mother to offer her services as a babysitter. Actually..we may end having to fight her for time with Ceres." Shen stated and for the first time since they had arrived at the cabin, laughed. "Ha I can see her now holding Ceres in her arms. My god..that woman is going to spoil our daughter rotten. We'll have to make sure that Ceres stays level headed. We dont want a brat on our hands, do we?" Shen smiled brightly as he turned looking at Kate.

Kathrine listened intently as he explained how his father might reject Ceres completely. She tilted her head back against the car seat and let out a light sigh. "...I think I can handle that...though I find it a little hard to understand...why neglect the child when its the parents fault.... I'd rather him yell at me or ignore me in place of her....It's not her fault" she muttered as he reached his hand over and placed it on her leg. Without thinking her hand rested a top his. "Your mother will love her....thats something at least" She said with a soft smile

"Well..." Shen sighed as he drove. He really didn't have a clue where they were going. He just wanted to get away from the cabin..and maybe away from Himiko. "You know that he's very traditional. The reason he disapproves of you is because...of your background. He pities you...but thats as far as his concern goes. Chinese families are very different from American ones. Honor is everything. Losing or gaining honor can either make or break a family. Currently, my family holds a very prestigious position in China. We're known in just about every province. People all over the country buy our goods. We're also one of the few companies who have excelled in conducting business over seas in places like New York and California. My father...he might not accept Ceres as a member of his family...so...I wanted to prepare you for some of the cruel things he might say." shen whispered, but then placed his right hand gently on her leg. "But you need not worry. I'll be there..and I wont let him trash our baby girl."

Kathrine looked down as he reminded her of everything he had told her. "Yes but...I think....If I had swallowed my pride and called you first....then things could have been resolved sooner...." She said softly. Of course she couldnt know what she felt...she couldnt imagine Shen ever betraying her in a way he said he had...sending her back to her uncles and putting her through a state of complete shock of betrayal. She flinched and looked away as he mentioned his father. His father terrified her...more than he should have but that was because when he got angry and started yelling he reminded her of her uncle in one of his drunken rages. 'W-what do you mean...problems" She said

"Kate, when have I ever done anything I didn't want to?" Shen asked. He turned his head towards the left to check for any incoming cars before pulling off. His hands gripped the steering wheel as he released a long sigh. "Its not all you. I told you everything...so I dont see how you could think that you're the only problem. Now, that doesn't excuse what you did." Shen stated. He had to make that part crystal clear. "But, the point is that I'm to blame...for...certain things...being the way they are too. So yes, I will be coming with you. We can get my mom to watch Ceres. Once she finds out she has a grandchild she'll probably move to New York permanently." Shen replied softly, but then paused. His entire expression changed for the worse after that., "Oh...father wont like that at all.." he sighed. "Listen..um..you remember my father right? I should brace you. When he finds out about Ceres...there could be a few...problems..."

Kathrine looked out towards the woods as he pulled off to the side of the road. Her bright violet hues looked at him in slight confusion as she tilted her head. Her hues widened as he stated that they needed 'couples therapy' "A-are you sure? From everything I've learned it sounds like the base of all the issues are with me...I mean...I dont want you to do something like that...if you dont want to....but...I'll be honest when I say...I'd love....to have you there....at least so I can feel a little comfortable..." She said. She had a hard time trusting...he knew that better than anyone. So opening up to some doctor she doesnt know wouldnt be easy for her, and yet she was still willing to go, even without him if needed

Shen pulled over along the side of the road. He leaned forward a bit and pressed his head against the staring wheel. God..it would have been so easy to let Kate continue to think that it was all her. Part of him screamed to allow her to think so, to let her go on assuming. However, Shen's definition of right and wrong was pretty sharp...and he wasn't as cruel as he'd like to be. "Listen to me." he whispered as he brought his head up and looked Kate dead in the eyes. "What I'm about to say...is going to make me sound like I'm contradicting myself...but we need to forget about Ceres, if only for a moment." he stated. "Both of us need help. Both of us should attend couples therapy. If we make Ceres the foundation of our relationship...however you define it...our relationship will crumble. We cant get help just for her. We have to get it because we want it..and we have to do it together. So, you'll have to put your thoughts of false hope in the back of your pocket because I'll be coming with you." Shen stated firmly. He looked towards the back at Ceres' seat before shifting his gaze back to Kate. "Katherine, this is how it has to be. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?"

"I know...its... I dont know...sometimes...its the way you look at me....the way you speak to me...sometimes...its like nothing has changed...so...i dont now....I am...really sorry" She said softly as she looked down. "B-but...um... If I do start going to see someone for help...would...you like to take care of Ceres during those times?" She asked. She was serious, she wanted to get herself help, she thought everything was in her head...that it was just her that needed to be fixed. She saw no reason to blame Shen for anything, as usual she was trying to do everything herself...

"You keep saying I'm giving you false hope.." Shen frowned once they were on the open road. "Even when we were inside the hospital, I said that it would be hard...but maybe someday we'd be able to get past our issues. So tell me, where are you getting this false hope nonsense? Sure, I also said it would take years for us to fix...us...and I also said that I could never forgive you...which I'm not if I can..." Shen sighed softly. "Maybe I just dont understand..." he muttered.

Kathrine followed him to the car and put Ceres in her car seat double checking to make sure she was secure before she got into the front. She buckled herself in and glanced at Shen. She could see that now he was actually trying to be distant with her... Once they started driving she waited till they were off the gravel road and on the pavement before she spoke. "Sorry...I keep making things hard for you..." She said. "You...You dont have to be distant....just...maybe small reminders...so...I dont get my hopes up?" She said with soft hues. "Maybe...I'll look into seeing a therapist...when we get to New York..." she mentioned softly and smiled and she lightly knocked her head. "Fix what evers wrong up here" She smiled as she tried to lighten the mood after making things sour

"Fine." Shen replied simply. He turned towards the car he had rented and pulled the keys out of his pocket. After clicking the button to unlock the doors, Shen opened the left back door so Kate could put Ceres in her seat. He trusted her to make sure that the baby was strapped in and moved to the driver's side of the car. Once inside, Shen started the car. This was going to be...strange. Shen wasn't sure how he could talk to Kate...and maintain his distance at the same time.

Kate didnt flinch seeing his distant gaze, if anything it helped her calm down. "I...I know" she said as she looked down. "I'm....not sure...but....I um...would...like to goon that ride...I'm sure Ceres would too....we..can talk about whatever..." She said with a light smile. It was easier to pretend to be happy when he was cold to her...she wasnt weekend by the false hope that she had a chance

Shen stopped and turned around. He wasn't cruel enough to keep walking while Kate was trying to catch up. He stared down at Kate, his eyes distant...just like she had requested. He listened to what she had to say tho. Once she was finished, shen let out a long sigh. He rubbed the back of his head, which was still sore. "It was unintentional." he replied softly. "I never...meant to make things hard." he explained. "I suppose...it just comes out like that...when I'm trying to work past my own feelings." he replied softly. The truth was that both of them were messed up. It wasn't just one of them. "So...where do we go from here?" Shen asked. He wasn't sure how they could make things work...if everything he did caused Kate pain

"N-No....I know...not intentionally....it's just" She whimpered while shaking her head. She knew he wasnt cruel enough to do such things on purpose. As he got up and walked out she wiped both her eyes and picked Ceres up and got off the bed. She walked out of her room and out the door. "Shen" She called, walking after him, faster than she should have been. "Wait" She said as she managed to catch up to him. "Please...I do...I do want us to be civil with one another for Ceres....its...its just a little hard for me....When I woke up...you were so cold and distant...I came to accept it...but...recently you...keep talking to me like you used to...and....it makes it hard" she said. She ran a hand through her hair while holding Ceres with the other. "I'm sorry...I...I know I'm messed up..." she said looking down completely confused

"What are you talking about?? Didn't I just say this isn't-" Shen began, but paused as Kate covered his eyes. Was he..really leading her on? He didn't see it like that, but then again..he could be a bit clueless at times. "I see..." Shen whispered as he moved her hand away from his eyes. "Well...I had no idea that you thought I was punishing you. In that case..." he whispered, but paused again and shook his head. He got up from the floor and silently walked out of the room. He headed for the living room and found Himiko in the kitchen. She looked at shen, pleading for him to make her something but shen wasn't in the mood. Instead, he walked past her and headed out the front door. He needed some fresh air, badly.

Kathrine had to look down. Seeing that look he gave her...He was doing it again, feeding her false hope...he said himself he couldnt forgive her...that it would take years to get on track...was it even fair to either of them to put one another through that sort of thing. She glanced at Shen again as he stared up into her eyes. she lifted her hand and covered his eyes as she looked down. "We...can make things work for Ceres....but please....stop punishing me...like this..." she whimpered softly, keeping her hand lightly pressed over his eyes. "I....It hurts too much when your too nice to me....so....just....be distant...please...stop....making me think...I'll get you back..." she cried softly and tears slid down her face, she used her free hands to start wiping them away

"This isn't about her." Shen stated quickly and sternly. "This is about us. You, Ceres, and me. No one else." he told her and shifted his gaze down to Ceres. "We are her entire world...I wont allow that world to shatter just because of our own issues. I want to...eventually work through those issues." he replied softly. "This isn't about being nice...or trying to get along. This is for our future...yours...mine...and Ceres' too." Shen stated and looked up right into Kate's eyes. He stared deeply into her violet hues. He was serious. Himiko could bitch all she wanted, but it wouldn't change a thing.

Kathrine felt Stupid for doing such a thing...as he suddenly offered to take them for a drive she blinked and stared at him. ""Y-yeah....sure?" She said completely confused. When he explained his reasoning behind it she felt less confused as she was able to tell herself it was...to maintain appearence....they werent going to get back together.....she knew that much...and as much as it hurt for him to try and be nice to her, she couldnt raise Ceres with never speaking to him....that would be too hard on her. "Though....I...dont think your girlfriend will approve" She said as she glanced to the door

Shen smiled against his daughter's hand. Tho, when Kate rubbed the back of his head he looked up at her in pure shock. "Um..yes..her arms are a bit small to reach around there" he whispered, his eyes shifting off to the side as well. Really, being around each other shouldn't have been 'that' awkward. "Hey." Shen whispered as his eyes shifted back to focus on Kate. "Lets go for a drive. Just the three of us." he suggested. "I mean..I think..the three of us need to be able to..you know..be together in public..and behave in a civil manner. Would you..be ok with that?" Shen asked. He was trying to offer her an olive branch. If he was going to stay in New York they'd have to interact at some point.

Kathrine was right. She could clearly hear the fighting from her room. She began to sing softly to distract Ceres and it worked. When Shen walked back in rubbing his head Kathrine blinked. Ceres's tiny hand patted at Shen's forehead her big violet hues staring at him. Kathrine without thinking reached her hand out and lightly massaged the spot her had been rubbing. When she realized what she was doing she quickly pulled her hand back. "I...think thats what Ceres meant to do..." She said and looked off to the side

Himiko and Shen began fighting on the spot. The blonde was used to practically be waited on. The thought of her fixing her own food seemed...foreign. "Look, right now I just want to spend a little time with Ceres and Kate. Why cant you understand that? I mean seriously...its not hard to poor yourself a bowl of cereal." Shen stated. "Cold breakfast, are you fucking serious?!" Himiko snapped from the bed. "And didn't you spend the whole night with Paris?" Himiko frowned. "Her name is Ceres, and in case you missed it, she was up almost all night. We weren't exactly bonding." Shen countered. "Listen..I'm busy..so fix your own breakfast." he added before turning away. Himiko, in all her rage, grabbed her hairbrush and chucked it at the back of Shen's head. Shen came back into Kate's room rubbing the back of his head. "Geez..." he muttered. He took a knee by the bed again and took Ceres' hands into his own. "Ceres my head hurts. Can daddy have a kiss?" he asked, tho it wasn't like he expected Ceres to reply.
