You Can't Save Me ((Yugo,Mature))

"I know I know. And, I know what I'm about say sounds foolish, but..." Shen paused. He placed his menu down for a moment and leaned forward a bit. "W-What if Ceres thinks we're abandoning her? I read that the first few months a child spends with the parents are critical to the child's mental development." He stated. "Oh hon, dont give into those child books." came the friendly voice of their waitress. She had curly brown hair going to her shoulder and light freckles running across her nose and under her brown eyes. "Sorry for interrupting..but my brother just had his first baby and he's freaking out. You have to relax. Leaving your kid with your parents wont scar her for life. Instead, you should enjoy the break." she smiled and pulled her pin out from her blue apron. "Now, what can I get for you two??"

"Hm...I think you just worry to much...I'm honestly perfectly fine leaving her with your mom, after all you turned out pretty amaing after being raised by her" She said with a soft smile before glancing down the the menu. Pancakes sounded so good...maybe with some bacon on the side

"Well its easy when you dont have semis coming from behind at 80 mph. Its also easy when you dont have any distractions." Shen smirked a bit. When they got inside the restaurant, they seated in a small booth by a window. "Hey, what do you think Ceres is doing right now?" Shen asked, almost as if he expected her to be walking around unsupervised. "I trust mom...but being away from Ceres like this...I dont know...its hard ya know?"

"I think I'll chose to walk before ever trying to drive in the city" she said a little stubbornly. She made it clear she had no desire to ever drive in the city, ever! She did as he told and checked behind her before getting into the left lain and then turned into the turn lane. She waited for a group of oncoming cars to pass before turning in. "I think I should have just watched a video or something, this is way too easy" she said as she looked for a clearing and parked without instruction, perfectly between the lines

"Wait till you get to the city." Shen sighed. "People think they own the road. They'll walk right into the street with no regard for their safety." Shen sighed again. He hated driving in the city and made a point to avoid doing so if he could. "In any case, why dont you take us over to that IHOP? We'll get a bite to eat before we continue. Now, you'll need to get into your left lane. Turn on your blinker and take a moment to look behind you. The car has a blind spot that cant be seen with your mirriors. If its clear, get over into your left, keep your blinker on, slow down a bit, and pull into that turning lane. Its the one in the middle of the road right there." Shen pointed.

"Of course" She said confidently. She was always up for a challenge. She drove to the exit as he said, and turned onto the main road. She turned on her blinker and made a right as he instructed. "This is a lot easier then I thought it was going to be" She said, following the speed limit signs. Making all the correct stops and signals.

Shen had actually forgotten to mention her blinkers. He didn't think she'd need to worry about using them, but became happy when he saw that she was. "Ok, up for something a little more daring?" he asked and pointed towards the parking lot's exit. "Take us towards the main road. You're going to make a right so be sure to put on your blinkers. I'll show you what to do once we get close." he replied softly. "Oh, you're doing well by the way. Ceres is going to be so proud." Shen smiled.,

"Alright," She said and slowly pressed on the gas peddle. She even made sure to use her turn signals even though no one was in the parking lot with her. "This is kind of like go karts...only avoiding any crashing" She said as she turned on her left signal, glanced both ways and then turned, picking up her speed to about 15 as he had said

Shen watched her closely. So far she was doing pretty good. "For now, lets just drive around the parking lot a few times." he smiled and leaned back against his seat. "Take the time to get comfortable with how the car turns. For now, lets keep your speed around 15 mph. Its slow, I know, but once you get a feel for the car we can move on to bigger things. Plus...well...from a legal point of view, you shouldn't be driving without a permit. But, I did promise to take you out so its fine."

As usual Kathrine paid close attention and took everything he had to say in, since it was of actual importance to his unlike his random rambles. She put her foot on the brake and shifted the car into reverse. She glanced behind her and lightly took her foot off the pedal, turning the wheel slightly as she backed out. She pressed down on the break and looked back at the shifter and switched it to drive. "Okay, where am I going?" She asked

Shen nodded. All of this was the easy part. He went to explain to how to operate the car, which peddle was gas and which was brake, how to work the blinkers, and how to shift out of park. The shifting was easy since Shen's car was a automatic. "Ok, we're in park right now. First, place your hands firmly on the wheel. Look at it...as a clock, and place your hands at about 10 and 2. Now, place your foot on the brake, shift out of park, and slowly release the brake." he ordered. "Ah, when you're backing up, always look behind you to confirm there's no one passing by."(I cant tell you how many times I've almost gotten hit/run overed from some idiot who didn't have the common sense to look back before backing up -_-')

Kathrine got into the front seat. The first thing she always did was put on a seat belt so when he mentioned it she just glanced down to the strap going across her chest. "Check" She said. She glanced at the mirrors, first she adjusted her seat so get more comfortable. Shen was much taller then she was so she movedthe seat up and forward a little before adjusting the mirrors. "Okay, check" She said

Shen smiled as they traded spots. Once he was seated, he sat up some. "Ok first rule to driving: always put on your seat belt. It doesn't matter if you're just going down the block, putting on the seat belt is the first thing you do." Shen instructed. His brown eyes then shifted to the mirrors. "Second, your a good bit shorter than me. Adjust your rear view and your left and right mirrors so you can see properly. There's also a switch under the left side of your seat. Use it to adjust your seat higher, lower, or forwards."

Kathrine was leaned against the door, looking out the window. When they pulled into the parking lot she sat up and stretched. "As I'll ever be" She said and opened the door, stepping out. She walked around the car and stood by the drivers side. She was nervouse but excited

Shen understood where she was coming from. Tho, this was another reason why they needed counseling. If things got rough between them, they'd need to turn to each other, not liquor. After about an hours worth of driving, Shen pulled into a smaller town. Compared to the city, the number of cars on the road was much less. Shen decided to pull into an abandoned parking lot first. "Alright this should do it. Are you ready?" he smiled while turning the car off./

Kate blinked and took hold of his hand lightly squeezing. "Thank god" She said, sounding thanful at the sound that she didnt try to hurt anyone but herself. She'd rather bring pain to herself then to find out she was inflincting it on others...she wanted to be nothing like her uncle in any way shape or form

"Well..." Shen mumbled. "If you're asking if you attacked people...the answer is no, but you did hurt yourself..allot from what I was told. You even had the scars to prove it." he replied softly. His eyes shifted over towards her. Shen took his right hand off the wheel and placed it gently over Kate's. "Hey..it was my fault. I told you before, I thought leaving you in New York was good for you. I thought that...I was serving your best interest." he whispered softly and lightly gripped her hands.

"Who?" She questioned. She didnt remember who he was talking about at all. When he mentioned her having a drinking a problem. "I...didnt act like my uncle...did I?" She asked, her hands shaking lightly. She shook her head, "You call...it'd be weird to talk to someone I dont even remember" She said looking at him

"Hmm..we might need to make a trip to your old apartment." Shen whispered. "You left some people behind that really cared about you. I think I still have Jacob's number. I'll give him a call and put you on, or I could just give you the number. Either way, we both owe them. Jacob and Jazz...they looked after you in a way I couldn't. You...You reached a series of low points because of me. At some point you developed a serious drinking problem." Shen whispered...

"I dont think I had one to pack" She said looking at him. "At least, I dont recall seeinig one while we were at the cabin" She said. When she and Jacob vanished, she had left everything behind, including her camera. Her old room mates still had all of her stuff, now pack away in boxes

"Didn't we pack it?" Shen blinked as he drove past the gate. He headed for the interstate. It was the fasted way to reach a good place for Kate to practice driving. He reached forward and turned on the radio. Mirrors was playing and Shen decided to leave it on. He didn't mind Justine Timberlake, but didn't like it when people called him the king of pop. There was only one king, and that person was the late MJ

Kate got in and buckled herself in, looking to him as he asked about music. She shrugged, she had never really been one to listen to music before. "Whatever is fine" She said with a smile. Her hues looking around the grounds. "Ah..I wish I had my camera...pictures of the city would look amazing" She commented softly

Shen gazed down at Kate, his eyes filled with confusion. "I dont get it...but ok." he blinked and closed her door. He jumped into the drivers side and turned on the car. Mike was already pulling out and driving towards the gate. Shen tapped his finger against the staring wheel. He felt like he had just missed something big, but decided to worry about it later. "Any music requests?" Shen smiled. Most of the CDs he had in the car were Chinese. There weren't too many American artists he enjoyed, tho did have a few of Mariah Carry's albums. He loved the sound of her voice.

Kathrine blinked as Mei came in and saved the day from awkwardness. As Shen opened the door for her she smiled and lightly tugged his ear. "You know, your the one who should be more tense with him" she said and looked back at Mei. "Mei, dont be too hard" She said, thankful that the woman was so quick to catch on to Kate's discomfort, that or she just plain and simple did not approve of the boy eye balling her son's woman.

Mei stopped dead in her tracks. She slid her shades down onto the bridge of her nose. Her eyes pierced Mike they a thousand razor sharp bullets. "Mike." she called sweetly, tho her tone was laced with venom. Even Shen felt it, and he was the dense one. "You'll be driving me today." Mei ordered, which translated as, 'get your ass over here.' Mike quickly nodded and ran to open the door for Mei. The Mom waved goodbye to Kate and grabbed Ceres to place her gently in her car seat. Shen opened Kate's door, but paused to lean in to her a bit. "Did mom seem...a bit tense with Mike just now??"
